FOOD BANK GETS A $66,000 BOOST FOR HAMPER PROGRAM

MAPLE RIDGE – To help stock up their hamper program, The Friends In Need Food Bank Society will receive $66,000 through Community Gaming Grants from the Province.

“Making sure your family is getting the proper nutrition it needs to stay healthy is not easy,” says Maple Ridge–Mission MLA Marc Dalton. “Friends In Need does an amazing job of supporting those who may need a little bit of help, giving them the chance to prepare healthy and fulfilling meals. This is a very important organization in our community and I’m happy they are getting this grant.”

Friends In Need Food Bank Society provides over 500 food hampers to more than 5,600 families and individuals. Not only does the food bank help feed people, it also raises awareness of hunger issues and provides assistance with dignity and respect.

“With last year’s slowing economy, more and more people in our community are turning to our Food Bank for help,” says Joanne Olson, Executive Director.

The hampers help people save on the cost of groceries and include fruits and vegetables, protein, bread, pasta and rice, canned soup or stew and other non-perishable items. The amount of the hampers depends solely on stock and whether the hamper is for a single person, couple or family.
