PAVING THE WAY FOR SAFETY IN MAPLE RIDGE

MAPLE RIDGE – The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has awarded a contract worth $2.5 million to Lafarge Canada Inc. to resurface a portion of the Haney Bypass, and a section of the Lougheed Highway from River Road to 272nd Street in Maple Ridge.

Why this matters:

• Improvements made to Lougheed Highway and Haney Bypass will increase safety and ride comfort for drivers using these important Fraser Valley corridors by providing a smoother pavement surface.
• Shoulder widening will increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
• Regular resurfacing protects the road's foundation by sealing out water and preventing potholing.
• This project will help extend the life of the road and obtain the most value out of our tax dollars.

Quote:

"Highway 7 is a very busy thoroughfare, and traffic will only increase thanks to our rising population. This project will make driving this important section of highway easier, more comfortable, and safer."
-Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton

Project details:

• Work will take place on Lougheed Highway (Highway 7) from River Road to 272nd Street and on the Haney Bypass.
• The work will extend the life of the existing pavement through the asphalt resurfacing process. The paved shoulder along certain stretches of Highway 7 will be widened as well.
• Work started September 26 and is expected to be completed on October 31, 2011.
