Safety Improvements Coming to Mission

MISSION – A contract worth $3,276,254 has been awarded to Imperial Paving Ltd. to improve the safety of the Highway 7/Nelson Street intersection. Work will include the four-laning of Highway 7 through the intersection, and access improvements from Nelson Street.

Why this matters:

  • Signal improvements will make accessing Highway 7 from Nelson Street safer.
  • Four lanes will improve the capacity of the highway at this intersection, and help reduce idling times and congestion.
  • Drainage improvements and environmental enhancements will provide improved habitat for fisheries in the area.

Quote:

"Increased development around Highway 7 coupled with the expansion of the industrial park is adding to traffic volume in the area. This project will help reduce congestion around the Nelson Street intersection and make getting on to the highway much safer."
-Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton

"The Government of Canada is pleased to participate in this project that will provide greater safety and convenience for the thousands who use Highway 7 every day."
-Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge-Mission MP Randy Kamp

“I am very pleased to see this project moving ahead and am looking forward to an upgraded intersection which will significantly improve safety and traffic flow for residents in the area and for industry in the Silver Creek Industrial park south of Highway 7.”
-Mission Mayor James Atebe

Project details:

  • The project is a continuation of the 4-laning of Highway 7 from Nelson to Wren, cost-shared between the Province of B.C. and Government of Canada.
  • The District of Mission is also a contributing partner towards the cost of the project.
  • Work has already started and is expected to be completed in October.
